Why knowing better doesn’t change anything

Insight is not the same thing as change.

Ashley Thiesen on a wooded trail, looking up

There’s something interesting that happens when you dive into personal growth work: you start to really get to know yourself.

You become aware of your patterns, recognize where you get stuck, and even understand why you do the things you do. But here’s the catch: even with all that insight, you might still find yourself stuck in the same old habits.

The catch nobody warns you about

You realize it’s time to raise your prices, yet you keep finding little reasons to put it off.

You know you should be more visible, but somehow other tasks always seem to take priority.

You understand you need support, but asking for help can feel more challenging than just handling it all on your own.

And even when an exciting opportunity comes your way, you might hesitate instead of jumping in.

It’s easy to wonder if something’s wrong with you.

If you know what to do, why aren’t you doing it better?

The beliefs underneath the goal

It’s not a lack of discipline. Often, deeper feelings are influencing the decisions we make. That’s where the idea of subconscious beliefs comes into play, and it’s truly fascinating.

You might consciously believe you’re capable of making more money, but underneath, there could be a different belief holding you back.

Money means added responsibility.

Being visible means facing judgment.

Successful people have to work constantly.

Asking for help implies you can’t handle things on your own.

Achieving great success means losing control over your life.

Money is the root of all evil.

These aren’t thoughts you intentionally dwell on; they’re beliefs and conditioning your mind has picked up along the way. And these beliefs matter because they shape the way we make decisions. Our subconscious tends to influence what feels safe, familiar, and achievable, even what feels like “us.”

Two things, both true at once

So, it’s possible to have a goal your conscious mind is excited about while another part of you is trying to keep things exactly as they are.

If you want the longer version of how that plays out in a business, I wrote about it in The hidden reason your business feels harder than it “should”. And if you’ve been collecting self-knowledge without much changing, Your “operating system” isn’t broken, it’s just offline is the companion piece to this one.

You can see exactly where it goes. That has never been the hard part.

Why I find PSYCH-K® so interesting

It’s not about sitting around trying to convince yourself that you’re confident or successful. Instead, it’s all about digging deeper to identify the beliefs that lie beneath the surface and creating new beliefs that truly support your goals. But most importantly… actually doing something about it, and rewiring your subconscious to reflect what you want instead.

You already have the strategy

More often than not, you don’t need a brand-new strategy; you already have the right strategy in mind. What you really need is the belief that empowers you to put it into action.

You already know the strategy. If the gap between knowing and doing is where you keep landing, that’s the part we work on.
